Judges' Voices in the French Abortion Debate of the 1970s

Abstract

This paper analyses the development of the French law on abortion in its socio-political context, emphasising the role played by French magistrates in this development. The attitudes and values held by student magistrates and magistrates from different areas are examined. The paper continues with a consideration of some of the practical and theoretical aspects of the liberalisation of abortion laws.
