Abstract

The practise of child migration from the United Kingdom to her various colonies, which continued on an organised basis from roughly the early 19th century until the mid 1960's has recently received increased attention in Australia. Whether one is talking about the 'Stolen Generations' of Aboriginal people, the British child migrants or the current detention of unaccompanied child asylum seekers, the issue of conflict between government policies and State guardianship duties is ever present. This article examines this issue in relation to the British child migrants.
