Abstract

The main objective of this website/pathfinder is to identify selected sources that assist in the investigation of U.S. war crimes against Iraqi citizens (non-combatants) during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The author does not provide a critical analysis or conclusions as the intent of the pathfinder is confined to providing the reader with suggestions on how to research this particular topic. The article also provides an invaluable research tool to those researching in the area of international humanitarian law as a whole. The pathfinder pulls together what the author concedes is a limited amount of material available on U.S. war crimes against Iraqi citizens. The main sources alluded to are international treaty law, U.S. domestic legislation (War Crimes Act 1996), books/monographs, reports and law journal articles. The main feature of the pathfinder is a step-by-step description of a suggested web research methodology. The description is very detailed and contains many useful hyperlinks. The usefulness of the suggested methodology and references will also be of interest to those researching generally in the areas of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
