Review of Mackie and Burton, Outline of Succession, Second edition (Sydney: Butterworths, 2000)
Abstract
The author evaluates this publication in terms of its value to Australian law students. He considers the book useful in that it gives a good overview of the law of succession. However he also finds that the book fails students in two important areas. Firstly the failure of the authors to engage plain English principles affects the clarity of meaning in some areas of the book (which Professor McLeod points out is a major problem in the law of succession itself). Secondly he finds many entries in the tables and indices to be defective.
