Abstract

This article examines the disintegration of the First Amendment right to Free Speech through consumerism and global dominance of multi national corporations. The author argues that this erosion of free speech is eating away at the foundations of society and transforming our living experiences into secular and limited arenas. The area of the marketplace is examined closely in terms of its impact on current society, with highlights on the impact of free speech in the American shopping mall and through television. The author provides case studies in the form of US Supreme Court rulings and questions the direction of American society in regard to free speech.
