Abstract

This article discusses the practice of surrogate motherhood and evaluates the legal and social consequences of differentiating between 'commercial' and 'altruistic' surrogacy. Through an examination of Australian regulatory legislation and an analysis of the objections to both categories of surrogacy, the need for legislative reform is highlighted and advocated.
