Genetic Non-Discrimination, Privacy and Property Rights
Abstract
Genetic information creates the possibility of an underclass, the asymptomatic ill. Legislation at present does not protect their rights to privacy. Future proposals for genetic regulation may not address these issues. As the genetic make-up of an individual is inherited, the requirement to provide details of inherited diseases will disclose confidential information about immediate family members of that person. There may be discrimination due to the provision of genetic information. Thus a better framework is required to cope with the "shared" genetic composition of people.
