Abstract

This article summarises and explains the background to the High Court's most recent decision in relation to native title rights in Australia. The paper comments on the implications of the ruling to industry and explores the possible approaches that may be taken by Australian legislatures to address those implications. The article was prepared for presentation to the 1997 Annual Conference of the Pastoralists' and Graziers' Association of Western Australia.
