Jenna Woods

Jenna Woods, a proud Noongar woman, has been making waves in academia and her professional career, using her platform to advocate for Indigenous rights and education.

Her journey is one of resilience, dedication, and a deep-rooted commitment to her community.

Woods began her academic journey at Murdoch University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies. Her choice of study was fuelled by a passion for understanding and preserving Noongar culture, and a desire to address the systemic challenges faced by Indigenous communities.

At Murdoch University, Jenna thrived, engaging deeply with her coursework and participating in various extracurricular activities. She was an active member of the Kulbardi Aboriginal Centre, a supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Through the Kulbardi Centre, Woods found a community of like-minded individuals who shared her passion for advocacy and cultural preservation.

Jenna was awarded several scholarships and accolades, including the prestigious Vice Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence. Her research projects often focused on the intersections of Indigenous knowledge and contemporary issues, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and modern societal challenges.

Upon graduating, she transitioned seamlessly into her career, taking on roles that allowed her to continue her advocacy work. She joined the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, where she worked on policy development aimed at improving education and employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians. Her work was instrumental in the implementation of several key initiatives that have had a lasting impact on Indigenous communities across Western Australia.

In addition to her policy work, Woods has been a vocal advocate for Indigenous education. She regularly speaks at conferences and seminars, sharing her insights and experiences to inspire the next generation of Indigenous scholars. Her commitment to education is further demonstrated through her involvement in mentorship programs, where she provides guidance and support to young Indigenous students navigating their own academic journeys.

Jenna currently works at Murdoch University as Dean, School of Indigenous Knowledges, within the College of Law, Arts and Social Sciences.
