Timber structure revealed as final roof panel installed on Boola Katitjin

Building 360 – Boola Katitjin has reached an exciting new milestone with the final timber roof panel installed on the building, completing the stunning timber structure.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Education and Equity Professor Kylie Readman joined Multiplex Construction Manager Peer Ahamed to sign the last cross laminated roof panel before it was craned into place at the ridge of the Northern Plaza.
It is one of 1796 pieces of mass engineered timber used across the building’s structural system.
Boola Katitjin will be a welcoming space for our students and staff to meet, learn, study, teach, socialise and engage with industry, supported by world-leading technology." Professor Kylie Readman, Deputy Vice Chancellor Education and Equity at Murdoch University
“The project is a major step towards ensuring Murdoch is the university of choice for students; we look forward to increasing our enrolments in line with the University’s Strategic Plan," Professor Readman said.
Multiplex Regional Director Chris Palandri said approximately 2143 tonnes of timber had been used across the Boola Katitjin project.
“It’s a bit like a giant Meccano set, with glue-laminated pieces of timber of all different lengths and shapes manufactured offsite before being fitted into place on site.
“Some of the glue laminated timber beams used within the Northern Plaza are the largest ever installed in Australia by volume – at 7,282 kilograms each, extending 26 metres in length," he said.
Construction of Boola Katitjin is now over 75% complete and on track to welcome staff and students in Semester 1, 2023.
