Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Veena Singh is currently studying the Master of Applied Psychology in Clinical Psychology at Murdoch, where she is benefiting from hands on, immersive learning experiences.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours at Murdoch University in 2012, Veena says her undergraduate training in psychology was very much about building a strong theoretical foundation and research skills in the field of psychology.

The Murdoch postgraduate experience

Speaking of her experience so far, Veena says her postgraduate education has been about deepening her existing knowledge and understanding of psychological theories in order to translate these concepts into practice and research as a trainee psychologist.

“I applied to complete my postgraduate studies at Murdoch University due to the incredible experience I had when I completed my undergraduate degree here years ago. I felt the education I received at Murdoch was top notch on all facets including preparing me for life after uni.

The teaching staff at Murdoch were critical not only in my education but also my personal and professional development at the time,” Veena said.

“I enjoy being a part of a cohort of amazing, passionate and like-minded students as well as teaching staff.”

Professional placements to hone your skills

Veena currently works as a Project Officer at BIZLINK Inc, a government-funded disability employment service based in Western Australia.

At Murdoch, not only are the postgraduate courses flexible, to help students manage work and study, they are also industry relevant, ensuring all students stand out from the crowd and have the knowledge and experience needed to advance their career.

As part of the Master of Applied Psychology in Clinical Psychology course she is also undertaking practicum placement at Perth Children’s Hospital working within the acute mental health service for children and adolescents.

“What I am enjoying the most about the course is the varied experience and expertise I am able to draw upon in my time here, both in the area of psychological research as well as clinical practice,” Veena said.
