Do you have what it takes for a career in animation?

Animators play an important role behind-the-scenes on a range of projects, from action movies to video games, television commercials, websites and mobile applications. Animation is everywhere and there are careers in all sorts of industries.
What does an animator do?
As an animator, technical artist or motion graphic specialist, you will create special effects, animation, or other visual images using a range of technology.A career in animation could lead you in many different directions – you could work on movies, commercials, video games, motion graphics, internet ads, medical explanations, VR tours of buildings or home models, or even recreate crime scenes for forensics.
What does it take to become an animator?
If you’re considering a career in animation, the first step is to determine whether you have the qualities that lend themselves well to the profession.“Animation involves a mix of art and science. You must have an artistic eye, but also enjoy breaking things down to see how they work and fit together,” says Creative Media, Arts and Design lecturer Associate Professor Rebecca Ambrose.
Another key to success is having the patience and creativity to plan your projects well. Knowing how to lay out your project will have a huge impact on whether the end product feels pleasing or cringe-worthy. It’s all about creating an order that will best represent the product, says Assoc. Prof. Ambrose.
"Additionally, you should have an observant eye, as well as the willingness to continually improve the way they observe form and space."
