Through industry-relevant training, the Sheep Production Team provides education to students, farmers and the community. Murdoch University students learn about sheep production, breeding, health, and welfare though practical hands-on experiences, guest speakers and training on the latest technologies and research. With a focus on developing the skills necessary to find successful careers, the team is farmer-focused and driven by the addressing key challenges for sheep and wool industry. Topics explored by students studying Bachelor of Agricultural Science extend from sheep genetics to animal health to new technology implementation.

The Sheep Production Team

Murdoch’s Sheep Production Team is the national leader in the field of sheep reproduction, breeding and management. Collaboration with farmers and industry is important and is especially beneficial for students when working with the Sheep Production Team. The team provides access to a vast network of farmers across the state and nation, interacting with leading farmers for research and industry development. In doing so, they offer opportunity for students to learn from leaders in the field, network, and connect to the broader industry while developing key practical and communication skills.

How Students Can Get Involved

Make the most of University by saying yes to opportunities to undertake placements or projects. If you aren't aware of opportunities - be proactive, reach out and ask members of the Sheep Production Team. There are always opportunities for students with a passion for livestock to get involved with existing research projects, or even to develop a project of your own. These are often able to be supported with generous industry scholarships. 

Other pathways include taking up offers of extracurricular training, getting involved in MASSA and the other livetsock interest groups. 

Allow these experiences to open the door to an incredible network of industry leaders, potential colleagues, and employers. The sheep industry is a fantastic place to be, with a variety of career options for graduates straight out of University.
