Murdoch University's Chiropractic Program Celebrates a Milestone with 20th Clinic Induction Day

Murdoch University’s Chiropractic Program hosted its annual Clinic Induction Day on September 6, 2024, marking the transition for its students from theoretical learning to hands-on clinical training.
This year's event was especially significant as it welcomed the 20th cohort of students into the student clinic located at the South Street campus.
The ceremony was attended by fourth-year chiropractic students and their families, celebrating this major milestone in their academic careers. The day was not just a ceremonial step into their clinical placements but also a celebration of their hard work and perseverance. Members of the Australian Chiropractors Association, who sponsor the event, were present alongside Dr. Warren Genders, a past president and long serving member of the profession, who offered insightful advice and congratulations to the students.
As part of his address to the audience, Barret Losco (Chiropractic Discipline Lead), reflected on the importance of community and support in achieving student success. As part of his speech he pointed to the significance of the ceremony when he stated "Today’s ceremony draws upon the tradition of the white coat ceremony, commonly associated with mainstream medicine but now adopted by many other health professions. The white coat worn by many healthcare providers symbolizes the trust that patients place in us as healthcare professionals, and the ceremony marks the transition from academic study to the practical world of patient care." Dr Cascioli, Clinic Director, congratulated the chiropractic students on their significant achievements which was a testament to their dedication, hard work and commitment to their studies. Senior Supervising Clinician, Dr Lyndon Amorin-Woods, led the students through the Student Chiropractic Pledge, a commitment to excellence in professional practice.
This sentiment highlights the dual nature of the day—both a recognition of the students' academic achievements and a forward look to their responsibilities in patient care.
The event also provided a valuable opportunity for academic staff including the School of School, Associate Professor Brad Wall, to connect with the families of students, fostering a greater understanding of the supportive network behind each student.
The post-ceremony luncheon and opportunity for guests to have a tour of the clinic facilities allowed families, faculty, and professionals to mingle, further cementing the community spirit that characterizes Murdoch University's approach to healthcare education. As these students step into their roles as clinicians, they carry not only the knowledge gained through their studies but also the support of families and peers. Murdoch University continues to be proud of its role in shaping the future of chiropractic care, celebrating each new cohort's entry into the practical aspects of their profession with enthusiasm and pride.
