Georgina Thompson wins Women in STEMM Poster Award
Georgina Thompson, a passionate and driven research student, is currently pursuing an MPhil in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Murdoch University. Her research focuses on investigating the effects of impurities on the performance of vanadium redox flow battery electrolytes, with the goal of optimizing their performance and cost-effectiveness.
Sharing her findings through a poster presentation at the Women in STEMM Research Symposium last month, marked an important milestone in her academic journey, allowing her to showcase her work to a broader audience for the first time.
The Women in STEMM Award recognises outstanding contributions and achievements by women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine. It honours individuals who demonstrate excellence in research, innovation, leadership, and advocacy, inspiring others and driving meaningful change within their disciplines and communities.
“I firmly believe that women bring unique perspectives and creativity to STEMM fields and that diversity is essential for fostering innovation and addressing the complex challenges of our world today,” said Georgina Thompson.
Receiving the Women in STEMM Poster Presentation Award in the Honours/Masters category is both a humbling and empowering recognition of her efforts to contribute to the field of Energy Storage. This award not only validates the hard work and dedication she has poured into her research but also serves as a testament to the importance of inclusivity in science.
Georgina extended her heartfelt gratitude to her supervisors and sponsors who made this recognition possible. Special thanks were given to Professor Aleks Nikoloski, Dr. Touma Issa, Professor Pritam Singh and Dr. Jonovan Van Yken for their guidance and support. She also expressed deep thanks to Murdoch University, Future Battery Industries CRC, Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia, Harry Butler Institute and the Women in STEMM organising committee for providing opportunities to share and celebrate her work.
