Last month Murdoch University had the pleasure of welcoming 65 Year 11 ATAR maths students from Morley Senior High School for an exciting visit.

Coordinated by the STEM Outreach team, the event featured a series of engaging workshops led by our distinguished faculty members: Dr. Brendan Florio, Professor Graeme Hocking, Dr. Farzana Jahan,  and Ms. Ha Nguyen.

The students participated in two captivating workshops: “Modelling Cyclones” and “Unlocking the Power of Data: Investigating Sleep Patterns and Social Media Use.” These sessions brought mathematical concepts to life, challenging and inspiring students while providing them with a deeper understanding of the subject.

In addition to the workshops, students also enjoyed a taste of university life through various activities, including a campus-wide treasure hunt: the “The Amazing Race,” and a talk on tertiary education and pathways.

The visit was a tremendous success, leaving students excited about the possibilities within the field of mathematics and statistics. It was a day filled with memorable experiences, showcasing the vibrant and supportive academic community at Murdoch University.
