Diary of a Murdoch Communication student

I began my Murdoch journey at the start of 2020 and will soon be finishing up at the end of Semester 1 2023. Many told me it would go quickly and as I look back, they weren’t kidding!

Initially, I started out in a different degree but after my first semester, I knew it wasn’t for me. I was wanting something more creative so after speaking to friends and student advisors, I fell into Communication.

Being globally recognised, with a mix of creative thinking and collaboration, I am so glad I made that decision to change.

I knew any degree would be challenging…let alone starting one through a pandemic! But, the support of Murdoch has been unmatched, where I have been guided by incredible academics, and met inspiring fellow students from all walks of life.

Through a mix of hybrid learning of both online and in person, I have learnt an array of hands on and theory-based skills and strategies. Not to mention learning from academics who work currently in the field, which helps students learn directly from the industry.

Any student would agree that university is all about taking opportunities. Murdoch has given me many, which has helped bridge the gap from being a student to a young professional.

It has not been all about lecture theatres and endless pages of text books. It has been hands on, engaging, with real people and projects.

I have been able to work on a strategic campaign with the Meningitis Centre Australia, interned at Clubs WA as a marketing assistant, and even became a trainee consultant with the MESH Consultancy.

These real industry experiences have allowed me to see everything on paper come to life, shaping the foundation of my professional career.

As the end of my final semester draws closer, I am more than thankful for what Murdoch has given me for the start of my career.

By Keely Lambert, Bachelor of Communication (Strategic Communication).
