Celebrating the Badge Ceremony for Final Year Veterinary Students

For final-year students of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine course, the Badge Ceremony is a significant and meaningful event marking the transition between academic learning and professional practice.
This Badge Ceremony is a celebration of our students’ journey from theoretical learning to practical application, symbolised by the awarding of a name badge that identifies them as "Veterinarian in Training."
Final year is a crucial phase in the education of veterinary students, as they continue to develop as adult and lifelong learners. Students work in various clinical settings, where they encounter real-life cases under the supervision of experienced veterinarians. As students navigate the challenges of the clinical year, they gain confidence in their abilities to handle the responsibilities that come with being a veterinarian.
“They build strong relationships with their peers and mentors, and these connections often last a lifetime”, said Associate Professor Melinda Bell, Associate Dean of Students at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University. “For the students, receiving the badge is a proud moment, as it signifies their readiness to step into the clinical environment to apply the knowledge they have accumulated over the last 4 years. It is a tangible reminder of their commitment to the veterinary profession and their dedication to animal health and welfare”, she said.
This year a special guest joined the Class of 2025 for the Badge Ceremony. “Murdoch” is a guide dog in training and came along to receive his “collar”. Like the veterinary students, Murdoch is developing his skill set and applying his knowledge to real-world situations. The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University proudly collaborates with Guide Dogs WA to support their breeding program, ensuring all dogs are fit and healthy to enter the program or training.
Congratulations DVM5 class of 2025! We look forward to supporting your learning this year.News
