MMFS Expands Forensic Science Capabilities with New Equipment

The School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences is very excited to announce the expansion of its teaching and research capabilities into the field of questioned document examination.
This significant advancement has been made possible through the generous support of Document Examination Solutions, a renowned Western Australian company with world-recognised forensic expertise.
Proprietors John McGinn and Tonya Trubshoe, who are retiring from the crime-fighting business, have chosen Murdoch University as the new home for their state-of-the-art instruments. This was facilitated thanks to their ongoing relationship with MMFS Academic Chairs, Associate Professor Brendan Chapman (Postgraduate) and Dr John Coumbaros (Undergraduate).
The newly acquired Foster + Freeman VSC6000 and ESDA instruments will enhance the practical learning experience for forensic science students. These advanced tools will allow students to investigate forged documents such as banknotes, passports, and identification documents. Additionally, they can assess minute impressions on paper surfaces created by office printers and handwritten texts transmitted through multiple layers of paper.
John McGinn and Tonya Trubshoe will continue to be actively involved in teaching and research collaborations with Murdoch University's forensic programs. Their ongoing participation will greatly benefit graduates, particularly in securing employment with federal agencies such as the Australian Federal Police and the Department of Home Affairs.
Murdoch University is grateful to be the recipient of this invaluable contribution, which will undoubtedly elevate the quality of forensic science education and research at the institution. Many thanks to John and Tonya!
