Introducing students to Indigenous knowledge

The School of Indigenous Knowledges (SIK) is a multi-disciplinary school that introduces students to Indigenous Knowledge across a range of topics including health sciences, education, physical sciences, and the social sciences. We deliberately challenge the notion that Indigenous Studies is purely a social science discipline about our culture(s) and politics.

Instead, we share knowledge generated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, informed by Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing and by Indigenous research methods. SIK is underpinned by the principles of Truth Telling and Social Justice.

Our unit offerings provide students with complementary and alternative worldviews to Western-based disciplinary knowledge. Students will be exposed to knowledge generated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Country, and they will learn from Aboriginal experts across a range of fields. Graduates who undertake our units will learn how to make a commitment to Truth Telling, reconciliation, relationship-building, and positive contributions within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The School of Indigenous Knowledges is co-located with the Kulbardi Aboriginal Centre. We welcome you to explore our website and find more about our programs, our research, our people, and our projects.
